Hansen Reserve West Footscray is a large open green space with a playground, multiple sports fields, Kingsville Tennis Club and the most recent addition – a junior bike skills track.
Hansen Reserve Footscray West Bike Track
Take your bike or scooter onto the track and race your friends or your family at the Hansen Reserve Bike Track!
The track features obstacle bumps, fast humps, rumble strips, a roundabout and ramps.
The track is relatively flat and the obstacles are low as it’s been built with young riders or beginners in mind.
It does get busy at peak times with older, faster kids. So if you have really little ones just finding their feet or learning to ride I recommend visiting at an off-peak time to have more space to yourself.

The kids have a lot of much fun lapping the track, stopping only for a water pit stop and snacks.

There are shaded picnic and barbecue facilities and a bike repair station. Public toilets are a walk away, closer to the playground.
Hansen Reserve‘s playground is old but serviceable. It offers a toddler area that’s shaded as well as the main climbing structure. The playground is due for an upgrade in 2021 as befitting its status as a regional playspace.
It is envisaged that the historic use of Hansen Reserve as a quarry will be conveyed through the use of stone, steel and timber in the design. Slides, swings, sand and rope play elements and elevated platforms will sit alongside bespoke elements.
The good thing is that the playground is relatively close to the bike track. So if your kids are old enough you can plant yourself in one place and let them switch back and forth between the pump track and the playground to their heart’s content.

Hansen Reserve is the perfect place for young bike and scooter riders to hone their skills as well as offering the facilities to make a longer visit worthwhile.
Note the entire reserve is off-lead for dogs except the bike track and playground, located in the south-west corner.
If you’re looking for other parks with a bike or scooter track try Berwick Grand Prix playground, Bayswater Train Park and Box Hill Gardens.
