Free Tennis Courts in Melbourne: The Ultimate List

Looking for a free public tennis court in Melbourne?

Baby 2.0 has been attending local ANZ Tennis Hot Shot classes for a while – and while we're not members of a tennis club, he does like to play a casual game now and then. So I'm always on the lookout for free and open to public tennis courts near me. A family tennis game a healthy and cheap activity with the kids!

If your family and friends also like an occasional tennis game then here's my guide to all the public tennis courts in Melbourne where you can play tennis for free. Never again will you be stuck with the question ‘where can I free tennis courts near me?' or ‘are there any tennis courts nearby?' Ace!

Note that this list does not include tennis walls in Melbourne or indoor tennis courts in Melbourne, only free outdoor tennis courts.

Parkville Tennis Club, 151 Royal Parade Parkville, 0412 279 156

Parkville Tennis Club holds is one of the closest tennis courts to the University of Melbourne. For $5 you can join in Sunday social tennis after 2pm. The court is free to use on the last Sunday of every month. Seniors Tennis also held each Wednesday and is Suitable for all skill levels!

Other City of Melbourne tennis courts, such as the popular East Melbourne tennis courts, are run and leased by tennis clubs. List of tennis courts in City of Melbourne.

Public tennis court – Moreland

Gowanbrae tennis courts, Elms Court Gowanbrae

Two fenced courts lined for tennis, netball and basketball, with lights.  Tokens to operate the lighting can be purchased from Gowanbrae Convenience Store for $6 each.

All other tennis courts in Moreland Council are leased and managed by the tennis clubs. Here's a list of Moreland Council’s tennis facilities.

  • there are no community tennis courts in Melbourne's Banyule City Council area. All courts form part of a club who provide casual tennis court (paid) hire to non-members using a book-a-court system.

  • there are no free tennis courts in Melbourne's City of Port Phillip council area. All tennis courts are leased by council to community-run tennis clubs, and all the clubs have a fee associated with accessing the facility. You either pay a casual rate or must be a member of the club
  • there are no free tennis courts in the City of Greater Dandenong. All tennis Facilities are under management agreements with local club operators and the council does not operate free tennis courts in the municipality.

Two tennis courts near the corner of Churchill Avenue and Adamson Street at the Braybrook Community Hub.  There are also sports grounds and the Lance Reichstein Playground, otherwise known as Aeroplane Park.
