Our Tips to Plan Your Visit

  • We recommend visiting early in the day, or later in the evening to avoid large crowds and a more peaceful experience.
  • Also youโ€™re less likely to get glare from the sun in your pics.
  • Speaking of photos – snap your pics right at the glass to avoid shadows, and hover your hand above your lens or position your own body’s shadow to block the glare. The security guards didnโ€™t seem to mind, as obviously lots of little kids press up to the glass to look in awe.

This year’s Myerโ€™s Christmas Windows and the basement activities are open daily from until 11 January 2026.

How the Myer Windows got its start

The Myer Christmas Windows are a cherished Melbourne and Australian tradition, enchanting families since their inception.

They have been a source of joy for families for many years.

Beginning back in 1956, Freddie Asmuseen – the head of display at the time – flipped the script and replaced the usual gift arrangement with a story very much dear to everyoneโ€™s hearts. The Olympics! Starring Santa and a handful of Olympians, the new dream team could be seen hanging out in Santaโ€™s sleigh.

Since then, the department store has kept the tradition alive.

Thanks to tales like the Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, Little Dog and the Christmas Wish and Alice in Wonderland, people have come to expect magic and wonder from Myer.

And every year, they deliver. More recently we’ve enjoyed a Bluey Christmas, and the Irwin’s Christmas story.

Sneak downtown this November and December and hunt for hidden secrets in the displays, letting your little ones dive into their imaginationsโ€ฆ without spending a cent.
