Every year in February the streets of Yarraville come alive for the Yarraville Festival! This vibrant street party started in 1981 and now brings around 25,000 people from Melbourne’s inner west together for a celebration of community and the West’s vibrant arts, food and culture.
The 2020 festival is on Sunday 16 February from 10am – 7pm, and is centred around Anderson Street, right in the heart of Yarraville Village.
There are five stages of entertainment; the Main Stage, Community Stage, Ballarat Street Stage, School of Rock Stage and the Kindred Studios Stage.ย Each stage has different performances throughout the day so there is something for every taste.ย I recommend checking out the Yarraville Festival program if there is something particular you want to see. The dog fashion parade is a must-do!
Stalls are set up along Anderson Street and on Murray, Willis and Canterbury Streets with all sorts of stalls, from community organisations to local small businesses.

There is ample opportunity to try a huge range of multicultural delicacies from Yarraville Village retailers and other pop up stallholders.
I highly recommend the loukoumades from the Greek Church!
If you have preschoolers then don’t miss the Alfa kids zone, set up on the synthetic grass between the Alfa Bakehouse cafe and the Woods Street car park.ย In past years there have been farm animals to pat and children’s entertainment, so we can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store!
There will be rides in the Woods Street car park, with tickets available from a booth on site.
With so much on offer at Yarraville Festival it’s best to set a clear expectation of your budget prior to the event.ย No doubt there will be requests for rides and purchases – and this is all easier if negotiated first.
Note the Yarraville Festival is a โplastic freeโ event. Bring your own bags, containers, coffee cups and cutlery and reduce the waste of soft plastics.
Parking is in high demand on the day, so it’s best to catch public transport if possible. Step off the train at Yarraville station you will be right in the middle of the action!
