HOT: Pizza d’Asporto, Yarraville

What’s is your kid’s favourite meal? For mine is pizza – which makes Pizza d’Asporto a welcome addition to our side of town with their new restaurant in Yarraville!

Pizza d'Asporto, 2-6 Ballarat St, Yarraville

Pizza d’Asporto is already well known for their authentic Italian (read Neapolitan) pizzas and delicious pastas from their restaurant in Williamstown.

Their Yarraville store is sure to be a family-friendly crowd pleaser. The location is superb –  right next to the Sun Theatre and facing the pop up park on Ballarat Street so kids are free to roam while waiting to be served. They are also open from 3pm weekdays and 11am Friday and weekends so you can have dinner (and a glass of wine) at 4pm if you need!

The only downside is there are only a small number of tables. The indoor seating area is small and tightly packed and there’s no real room for prams inside. Get there early and snag a place at one of the outdoor tables on the terrace or footpath if the weather’s good – that way you can also watch over the kids in the park. We were there at 5pm and by 5:30pm every table was full with a steady takeaway trade too. Note they don’t take bookings as tables turn quickly.

Their pizza is definitely a highlight. The crust is hand-shaped roughly, nicely charred and topped with fresh, flavoursome ingredients. They have gluten free bases too but inevitably you don’t get the same bubbly crust without the gluten.

The dessert menu offers house made tiramisu ($11),  tartufo ($7) and other Italian-style desserts. Gelati, made especially for Pizza d’Asporto, is available by the tub for $12. It’s more designed for takeaway but you can eat your 500g of gelati dining in too if your stomach allows! It’s the same gelati that’s served at their Williamstown Beach kiosk Kiosk d’Asporto.
