Housing developers know that a fantastic playground is a drawcard and a showcase for the area. In Cranbourne West you’ll find Trueman Reserve, part of the Clarinda Park development.
The spacious playground uses standard playground equipment to great effect. There’s a sunny colour scheme – red, yellow and orange – and enough equipment to engage younger and older kids.
For adventurous kids there are plenty of opportunities for challenging physical play.
The highlight is a tall web climbing frame which leads out into a long slide.
There’s also a large nest swing, climbing fort with a spider’s web, monkey bars, balance poles and three in-ground trampolines.

Smaller kids will enjoy the smaller fort, slides and climbing wall and fireman’s pole, the two smaller swings, rockers and see-saw.
The space is surrounded by covered BBQs and picnic tables, though check that the barbecues are in use before you plan a party there (as they were not working when we visited). There are public toilets on site.
Next to the playground is a fenced-off dog park with play equipment for the pooches and surrounding paths are great for biking and scootering.
At the moment most of the shade is in the two pavilions as the greenery is all new. However, its location seems to catch a nice breeze so even in full sun it’s not burning hot. Still bring a hat and sunscreen though!
Trueman Reserve is a generally well-thought-out play space and if you’re not local you can combine it with a visit to other excellent playgrounds in the City of Casey – Megasaurus playground at Livingstone Cranbourne and Casey Fields.
