HOT: Cherry Lake, Altona
Cherry Lake Altona is a popular recreational area which is part of the historical coastal wetlands of Altona.
The wetlands were converted to a lake back in the 1970s and both the Altona lake and the surrounding reserve are a wildlife habitat. The lake is home to a range of native birds including pelicans, swans and swamp hens.
Along the Cherry Lake shore is an awesome playground with a picnic and barbecue area. Note there's no gate or fence between the lake and the playground so be vigilant with little kids.
The playground is large with a ‘rocket' shape in the centre that you can ‘drive'.
