Your Easter Egg Hunt Questions, Answered

Do I need to book ahead for Easter egg hunts in Melbourne?

For the bigger ticketed events, yes and quickly. The Giant Easter Egg Hunt at Chirnside Park sells out fast every year, and the Skyline Melbourne Easter Egg Hunt also has limited spots per session. Free walk-up events like the Kew Junction Easter Hop and Spot do not require booking, but it is always worth checking the event page before you head out.

Are there free Easter egg hunts in Melbourne?

Yes, a few. The Mt Buller Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday 5 April is free, with 10,000 chocolate eggs hidden across the mountain village. The Kew Junction Easter Hop and Spot on Saturday 4 April is also free and needs no booking. Always check the individual event listing before you go as details can change.

Are Easter egg hunts in Melbourne split by age group?

Many are. The Skyline Melbourne Easter Egg Hunt and the Giant Easter Egg Hunt at Chirnside Park both run timed sessions by age group, so younger kids are not competing against older ones. When you book, make sure you are selecting the right session for your child’s age.

Can parents join the Easter egg hunt with their kids?

It depends on the event. At the Skyline Melbourne Easter Egg Hunt, adults are not permitted in the hunt area with children over the age of 5. For younger children at most events, parents are welcome to help out. Check the specific event page if you are not sure what the policy is.

What age are Easter egg hunts suitable for?

Most Melbourne egg hunts cater for children 12 and under. The Tesselaar Kabloom Easter Rabbit Hunt is open to all ages, and the Luna Park Easter Egg Hunt also caters for kids of all ages. Always check the individual event listing for age recommendations before you book.

What should we bring?

Most ticketed hunts supply a bag or bucket on arrival so you do not need to pack your own. For outdoor events at farms or parks, dress the kids in layers as Melbourne in early April can be unpredictable, and closed-toe shoes are a good call. Getting there early is always smart, especially at events with timed sessions.

Are there Easter egg hunts near Melbourne’s CBD or inner suburbs?

Yes. The South Melbourne Market Easter Egg Hunt runs on Thursday 2 April to raise funds for the Good Friday Appeal. Note that the Market is closed on Good Friday itself. The NGV Easter Egg Hunt is another popular inner-city option, though dates are still TBC for 2026, so keep an eye on the NGV website closer to Easter.

Are there Easter egg hunts for families in Melbourne’s west?

Most of Melbourne’s bigger egg hunts are in the east and Yarra Valley, but west-side families have some good options. South Melbourne Market is easy to get to from the west, and Animal Land Children’s Farm in Diggers Rest runs a story-led Good Friday egg hunt in support of the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

Is Good Friday a public holiday in Victoria?

Yes. Good Friday, 3 April 2026, is a public holiday in Victoria. Many shops and businesses will be closed, including South Melbourne Market. That said, some great Easter events run specifically on Good Friday, including the Animal Land Children’s Farm egg hunt in Diggers Rest. Public transport runs on a reduced timetable, so check the PTV website or app before you leave home.
