Drone Light Show in Melbourne: A Family-Friendly Night of Drones and Classical Music

Something Truly Magical is Flying Into Melbourne: Hereโ€™s Why Your Kids Will Love the DroneArt Show

If your kids love lights, music, and anything that flies, you wonโ€™t want to miss this Drone Art Show.

For two nights onlyโ€”May 23 and 24 2025โ€”Melbourneโ€™s night sky is getting a glow-up like never before. The DroneArt Show is landing at Caulfield Racecourse, and itโ€™s bringing hundreds of synchronised drones, a string quartet, and a full sensory experience that promises to dazzle both grown-ups and kids aged 8 and up.

Wait, whatโ€™s the DroneArt Show?

Think of it as a cross between a classical concert and a next-level fireworks showโ€”without the noise or smoke.

As a live string quartet plays familiar classics like Vivaldiโ€™s โ€œThe Four Seasonsโ€ and Tchaikovskyโ€™s โ€œSwan Lake,โ€ hundreds of glowing drones will light up the sky, moving in perfect time with the music.

Youโ€™ll see swans glide across the sky, stars twinkle above, and flowers bloom overheadโ€”all without a single explosion.

Itโ€™s a peaceful kind of magic. And with the added glow of flickering candles surrounding the space, itโ€™s set to be a pretty stunning sight. (Yes, weโ€™re already picturing the kids lying back on a picnic rug, pointing at the sky with their mouths wide open.)

Is the Drone Show really suitable for kids?

Absolutelyโ€”if your kids are school-aged and can sit through a show that runs for just over an hour (65 minutes, to be exact), theyโ€™ll be captivated.

This isnโ€™t your usual sit-down concert. The movement in the sky, the changing colours, the live musicโ€ฆ itโ€™s the kind of gentle spectacle thatโ€™s big on wow-factor without the overstimulation.

Thereโ€™s no dialogue or storyline to follow, so thereโ€™s nothing theyโ€™ll โ€œmissโ€ if they get distracted for a few minutes. But chances are, theyโ€™ll be hooked from the moment those first drones take flight.

What should we bring?

Since the show takes place outdoors at Caulfield Racecourse, you’ll want to rug upโ€”itโ€™s late May, after all.

Bring warm jackets, maybe even a beanie or two, and something cosy to sit on. Blankets, picnic rugs, and low camp chairs are all a good idea.

Itโ€™s a great excuse for a hot chocolate on the way in (or packed in a thermos if youโ€™re super organised).

There will likely be food and drink options on-site, but if youโ€™re coming with kids, it’s always smart to bring your own snacksโ€”something easy to munch on while they watch the sky.
