Potterheads, get ready! The magical world of Harry Potter is in Melbourne with Harry Potter: The Exhibition, an immersive experience that brings iconic moments, characters, and locations from the beloved book and movie series to life.
With over 3.3 million visitors worldwide, Harry Potter: The Exhibition is a fun experience for wizarding world fans young and old.

Melbourne Harry Potter Exhibition: What to Expect
Whether youโre a lifelong fan or introducing your kids to the magic, Harry Potter: The Exhibition is packed with interactive experiences, authentic props, and behind-the-scenes insights.
Young witches and wizards will love the hands-on activities, while adults can soak up the nostalgia and behind-the-scenes details.

Enter the Harry Potter Exhibition
To start with everyone is given a wristband and then you’re led into Kings Cross Station/Platform 9 3/4.
There you set up your profile and pick your Hogwarts house, wand and Patronus.

The profile means you scan your wristband as you complete interactive tasks throughout the exhibition, earning points for Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw. It’s a simple but clever way to engage with all the exhibition activities.

Step into Iconic Locations
Once you’ve got your profile, you proceed in order throughout the exhibition ie there’s a set route.
Throughout the exhibition you walk through set pieces, such as those inspired by Hogwarts, the Great Hall, and Hagridโs Hut.

There are some WOW moments but some of the sets are less impressive than others (the Great Hall looks like a sad cafeteria). If you’ve been lucky enough to go overseas and see the film sets at London’s Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour or the Wizarding World created at Universal Studios theme parks, you’ll know what I mean.

Still, it’s fun to snap all these photo moments (especially if you’re in costume) and plenty of people seem to enjoy the sets!

Wizarding World Interactive Experiences
This is your chance to get sorted into your house with the Sorting Hat, test your Quidditch skills, brew your own potion….

…conjure your Patronus, and repot a shrieking Mandrake!

Sometimes the lines are too long for us to bother with the experience (eg duelling wands), but most of the time there are multiple stations so everyone can have a go quickly.

Authentic Props & Costumes
Get an up-close look at some of the original costumes and props used in the films, from wands and robes to magical creatures.

There is lots of interesting behind-the-scenes information and insider information from the costume designers if you take the time to read the plaques. Out of everything in the exhibition, Lady AB and I enjoy learning about these insights the most.

How long should you spend at the Harry Potter Exhibition?
The exhibition has many rooms and there are times when you’ll need to wait to participate in the activities, so allow 90 minutes for your visit.
As true Potterheads, 14-year-old Lady AB and I spent about 2 hours inside!

Harry Potter Exhibition Merchandise
Your visit ends with a visit to the gift shop. Browse a range of limited-edition Harry Potter items, perfect for souvenirs and gifts.
This is also the place to order a cup of frothy, sweet Butterbeer! There’s nowhere inside to drink it though, so everyone gathers on the footpath at the exit.
