The evenings are getting longer, the weather is warming up and the flowers are in full bloom, which can only mean one thing – October is here! 

Melbourne always comes alive in Spring, with a whole host of family-friendly events and activities taking place across the city. From spooky Halloween events to family-friendly festivals, there’s something for everyone.

Stepping into The LUME Melbourne is an epic adventure into art. Australia’s and the Southern Hemisphere’s first permanent digital gallery transforms the world’s finest art into fully immersive sensory encounters.   • In Common Fringe Festival, Fed Square (Wed 18 Oct – Sun 22 Oct) – Discover an astounding steel and rope structure in Melbourne’s streets, defying gravity with a touch of magic. Created by One Fell Swoop Circus, “In Common” brings this surreal sculpture to life with their captivating acrobatics.
  • Inside Out (Thu 19 Oct – Sun 29 Oct) – Inside Out is a place to get creative with others and let your imagination soar. There will be all sorts of inspiring materials on hand for you to create artwork or build a play space together.

  • The District Makers Market (Last Sunday of every month) – creative and colourful market stalls showcasing a variety of art, craft, jewellery, homewares, gifts and artisanal produce last Sunday of the month.

  • Potion Putt (Until 30 Dec) – A crazy golf course inspired by famous fantasy and fiction Wizards where you can test your magic & wizarding putt putt skills.
  • I See You Like This (Until Sun 26 Nov) – Come and explore this exhibition in ArtPlay’s gallery and create a 3D portrait on your adult’s face. There are 30 weird and wonderful portraits designed by children and two making stations where you can create your very own portrait.
  • Neverland Melbourne (Until 31 Dec) – Experience the wonder of the Blue Lagoon, climb aboard the Jolly Roger and hang out at the Lost Boys Hideout. Keep an eye out for family sessions as normal sessions are 18+ years.

  • Roll On at Rubix (Sun 8 Oct) – Malt Shop Rollers are bringing their fantabulous pop-up roller rink to Rubix Warehouse for the second Sunday of the month!
  • Dog Lovers Show (Fri 13 Oct – Sun 15 Oct) – one of the largest festivals in the world dedicated to educating, entertaining and inspiring dog lovers.
  • Puzzle Melbourne Fringe (Sat 14 Oct) – Five acrobats perform a playful street circus using oversized blocks as puzzle pieces. They tumble, twist, and turn to create surprising combinations. Formosa Circus Art offers a unique contemporary circus experience.
  • Regional Farmers Markets at Abbotsford Convent (Sat 14 Oct) – Explore a variety of stalls featuring seasonal fresh produce, tasty foods, and condiments from local Victorian farmers. Each month, you can enjoy the finest offerings from Victoria’s best producers at our market with over 45 stallholders.
  • Our Great Fete (Sat 14 Oct) – So much fun to be had there will be loads of rides for all ages, sweet to savoury food and drinks, and various stalls which are sure to have something for everyone.
  • Queens Berry Cup (Sat 21 Oct) – a street festival and a celebration of the diverse communities of North Melbourne and West Melbourne.
  • Valuing A Young Audience (Sat 21 Oct) – unique performance showings and activities for children under 12 and their grown-ups, as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
  • Children’s Advisory – A Cabaret for Kids (Sat 21 and Sun 22 Oct) – A never-before-seen story travelling through undiscovered worlds told by unbelievable circus artists, as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
  • Monster Mash Mini Festival (Sat 28 Oct – Tue 31 Oct) – Get ready for a Halloween transformation at the craft village! Dance, get your face painted, and go trick or treating at the Grave Rave.
