Marriott Melbourne Glamping is the perfect Family Staycation in the City

My kids love the concept of camping! A camp fire, being outdoors, special foods and the pure novelty of it all.  But if you don’t have the gear, or the enthusiasm, perhaps glamping would suit you better?

Marriott Melbourne is offering a city glamping experience in their Melbourne CBD hotel, located on the corner of Russell and Lonsdale Streets. A hotel stay is perfect for a very fun night away from home and with their family glamping experience, you don’t even have to venture outside your room to soak in the outdoor atmosphere!

Marriott Hotel Melbourne‘s glamping experience is an easy way to have a great family night away from home and a good opportunity to experience all the free things to do in Melbourne over Christmas or enjoy summer festivities in the CBD.

Maybe you can visit the NGV Triennial, the free Uptown Gallery at the top end of Bourke Street or the programming at MPavilion!

What is included when you book glamping at Melbourne Marriott Hotel?

It’s a bit tricky to find where the offer is located on the Melbourne Marriott website but basically, you’ll need to book a courtyard room on the first level. In the private courtyard, there is a tent set up and all the necessities for a night of glamping included.

You can sleep under the stars, or in a very comfortable bed. Rooms include two double beds to sleep up to 4 people. The sliding doors are sealed shut so you can’t hear any of the city noise outself.

The courtyard tent has sleeping beds and pillows for two kids, plus a fake fire pit filled with fairy lights.

A selection of games and board games are available in each glamping room for family use. Lady AB and Baby 2.0 enjoy Jenga and endless games of Uno.

And to top it off; you’ll get a late check out so you can make the most of the next day.

Facilities that you can access during your stay at Marriott Melbourne include an indoor gym, indoor pool and spa (sauna is not currently open). As we visit on a weekday afternoon we have the whole pool to ourselves and the kids go nuts with the pool noodles while I relax on a lounger. It’s a good way to wear them out and having a pool so close by is a novelty!

The room provides (adult-sized) dressing gowns and slippers that you can take poolside, and towels are available at the pool.

Where can we eat at Marriot Melbourne?

Essence restaurant at Melbourne Marriott is not currently open but the room service menu is still available. As the kids want to enjoy the novelty of the hotel stay, we order in.

The room service menu has familiar items that kids will enjoy – I order toasties, pizza and salad for instance. Each delivery has an additional $5 charge.

There is a kids mini bar menu for a bit of fun!

There are also many restaurants near Marriott Melbourne. Here’s a starting list of where to eat in Melbourne CBD with kids.

Can you take a pet?

Sometimes leaving pets at home (and organising care for them) can add extra work to a getaway. The Marriott Melbourne’s Courtyard rooms are dog friendly, so enquire with them if you’d like to take the family pooch along.

There are even luxury items available for dogs, with premium dog beds and premium in-room dog dining.

Is there parking on site?

Marriott Melbourne parking is $60. Valet parking sounds expensive, but when I investigate self-parking overnight parking near Marriott Melbourne, I find that the price ends up much the same unless I want to get up at 5am or 6am to move my car onto the street! And street parking is increasingly hard to find in Melbourne CBD.

Or if you don’t have too much luggage, catch a train and walk the short distance from Parliament Station.

Are there other offers available?

If you’d prefer a getaway to focus on some important tasks, explore Melbourne further or sneak in a kid-free evening, the Melbourne Marriott has other packages to suit.  Check out the Work Anywhere Stay Pass, Explore Melbourne and Hot Tub and Movies Under the Stars for some luxury.
