FIRST LOOK: Moja Moja Life by Misaki Kawai, NGV Triennial for Kids
From 19 December 2020 to 18 April 2021 the National Gallery of Victoria’s Triennial Exhibition will be showing at NGV International, and the NGV Triennial includes a space curated especially for kids.
This year Artist Misaki Kawai (not to be confused with the Japanese term ‘kawaii' meaning cute!) is presenting Moja Moja Life: Misaki Kawai for Kids.
This exhibition is inspired by Kawai’s interest in mimetic terms in Japanese language (such a mojamoja, which means hairy), children’s play and creating.
Typical of Kawai’s playful approach to art, Moja Moja Life: Misaki Kawai is an indoor playground for kids including a giant hot pink faux fur dog sculpture and a display of other dogs with colourful coats.
Kids will be invited to make their own puppets at an activity designed by Misaki Kawai, and they can put on a show at the theatre booths. Performances can be recorded and shared with the multimedia program set up at the theatre booths.
I, for one, can’t wait to see this exhibition as it will certainly be lots of light hearted fun for kids – big and little alike.
Entry to NGV Triennial and Moja Moja Life: Misaki Kawai is free but bookings are required.
