Outdoor pools in Melbourne typically open just in the warmer months, but Melbourne aquatic centres with indoor pools are open all year round and are an excellent option for some family fun and exercise.

There is a swimming pool Melbourne CBD; Melbourne City Baths. Inside the spectacular facade of the Melbourne City Baths they have a 30 metre indoor pool, spa and sauna. They run swimming classes to follow the Royal Life Saving Australia Swim and Survive curriculum.

2. Brunswick Baths, Brunswick

Brunswick Baths has a heated, 20 metre, five lane lap and recreation pool for lap swimmers, water workout classes and swimming lessons. The indoor water play pool has a waterslide and water cannons to entertain the kids and the beach entry is particularly good for introducing toddlers and young children to the water.

3. Richmond Recreation Centre, Richmond

Enjoy the 50 metre indoor swimming pool Richmond Recreation Centre offer all through the year. They also have a Learn to Swim pool, a toddler pool and a spa, sauna and steam room. They run swimming lessons and other aquatic classes.

Adult swim admission is $6.90, children are $3.50 and a family is $15.80.

4. Northcote Pool, Northcote

**Note: Northcote Aquatic Centre is currently closed for redevelopment.

Northcote Aquatic Centre boasts a heated indoor 25m lap and leisure pool is suitable for lap swimming all year round. The kids swimming pool features a beach entry and is suitable for young children and toddler play all year round.

Outdoors they have a 10 lane 50 metre outdoor swimming pool that is open to the public all year round. There is also a toddler play pool and 25 metre pool open from November until the end of March (weather permitting).

Coburg Leisure Centre has a 25 metre pool, learner pool and toddler pool. There is also a spa and steam room. Adult admission is $6.30, children are $4.10 and a family pass is $16.60.

6. Sunbury Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Sunbury

7. TRAC Thomastown, Thomastown

Thomastown Recreation & Aquatic Centre (TRAC) is home to brand new indoor pools including a 25m lap pool, Programs / Learn to Swim pool, hydrotherapy pool, and toddlers pool / baby pools. 

The kids facilities include water tunes piano, wally the whale, shooting cannons a green frog slide and waterfalls. There is also an outdoor splash park that is operational during the summer months.

8. Reservoir Leisure Centre, Reservoir

Indoors at Reservoir Leisure Centre, there is a 25 metre pool, hydrotherapy pool, spa, sauna, steam room, learn to swim pool and toddlers pool with beach entry.

Seasonal facilities outdoors include the main pool, beach pool and waterslides.

9. Splash Aqua Park & Leisure Centre, Craigieburn

Splash Aqua Park & Leisure Centre has three indoor pool areas so there is something for everyone! The main pool is an Olympic sized pool available for water exercise, recreational play, lap swimming, aquatic group fitness classes and user group programs. It has eight lanes and an adjustable boom to facilitate two 25 metre pool areas. The warm water pool is for aquatic programs including exercise and rehabilitation. The leisure and Swim School pool is for swimming lessons and having fun in the water.

Last, but certainly not least are the waterslides. There is a larger and smaller slide and the highest point is just shy of 14 metres. (Height restrictions apply.) Definitely a Melbourne water slide to try out!

10. Fawkner Pool, Fawkner

Fawkner Leisure Centre has a 25 metre 6 lane indoor pool and a shallow play area.

They also have a seasonal outdoor pool that's open from 1 December to 31 March. There is a 50-metre solar-heated outdoor pool, deep water play area, learner's pool and toddler's play pool, shaded area and barbecues.

Visit La Trobe University Sports Centre for 25 metre heated indoor pool with exceptional waterquality. There is also a deep water pit, cargo net and Tarzan rope.

Public entry to the pool for adults is $5.50, and children under 10 are granted admission for the student price of $4.20.

14. Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, Albert Park

Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre MSAC pool has an outdoor 50m pool for casual lap swimming, as well as boasting indoor 50m competition pool, an indoor 25m lap pool, indoor multi purpose pool and hydrotherapy pool. There is also a wave pool and water slide that are very popular with kids.

MSAC swim school runs MSAC swimming lessons in line with Victorian school terms. MSAC swimming entry prices start at $5.80 for children, $8.50 for adults and $17.30 for a family.

St Kilda Sea Baths are an indoor aquatic center with a difference – they are salt water from the bay! There is a heated 25 metre seawater pool, a warm water pool, steam room and lounge area with bay views. They run swimming lessons for kids and adults.

16. Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC), Frankston

Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC) has a heated 10 lane 50 metre indoor pool. This pool operates as a 25m/20 lane or 50m/10 lane pool at various times of the day. There is also a learn to swim pool, beach entry / wading pool, toddlers pool and one of the largest warm water exercise pools in Victoria (for 16yo and over).

If you're looking for indoor water parks, PARC doesn't disappoint. Water play facilities include a multi-level structure with slides for every age. It also has jets, valves, spray nozzles, a spinning water wheel and a giant tipping bucket. There are two larger water slides for older kids (age and height limits apply).

17. Harold Holt Swim Centre, Glen Iris

I've never understood why they'd name a swimming pool after a prime minister who died from drowning…but anyhooo.

At the Doug Ellis Monash swimming pool there are three heated indoor pools under one roof. There are two 25 metre, 6 lane indoor heated pools, one of which has a variable depth floor. 

There are learn to swim programs and infant aquatics available. Entry for an adult is $7.20 and a child is $4.70.

Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre is a huge facility with awesome pools. There's an outdoor 50m pool, an indoor 25m pool, indoor Glen Waverley wave pool (with normal wave sessions and special big wave sessions when participants are provided with body boards), a warm water exercise pool and indoor toddler play pools.

Glen Eira Pool (GESAC) has a 50 metre outdoor pool, 25 metre indoor pool, indoor leisure pool with interactive water features and play equipment – including a giant pirate ship, two water slides, learn-to-swim pool and an aquatic wellness area.

25. Dandenong Oasis Leisure Centre, Dandenong

Dandenong Oasis Leisure Centre‘s aquatic facilities include an indoor 50 metre pool, fun pool, toddlers pool with water jets, and hydrotherapy pool.

26. Noble Park Pool, Noble Park

Noble Park Aquatic Centre has heated indoor and outdoor pools, along with a splash park and water slide for family fun.

Indoors there is a heated indoor leisure and program pool thais used for aqua aerobics, junior swimming lessons, and is perfect for kids to play in all year round.

Outdoors there's a 50 metre outdoor swimming pool is open to the public every day. The's also an outdoor splash park that opens when the forecast is above 26 degrees Celsius. It has tipping buckets, water fountains, slides and climbing equipment all housed under an ample shade structure. One of Melbourne's biggest water slides is also open when the temperature is warm enough (age and height restrictions apply).

Healthways has one of only a few salt water indoor pools Melbourne wide. It's available for public use when not fully booked out by programs, and so it's best to check lane availability before visiting. They run swimming lessons and aqua exercise classes.

31. Ashburton Pool, Ashburton

Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre is home to a 25-metre outdoor heated pool as well as a 25-metre indoor heated pool and hydrotherapy pool.

Aqualink Box Hill has a 25 metre indoor pool, a toddler pool, warm therapy pool and an indoor diving pool. There is a splash pad with tipping bucket, water sprays, small slide, water rainbows, bubblers, geysers and beach entry into the leisure pool. 

The splash pad operates Monday to Friday 9am – 12pm and 3:30pm – 6:30pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am – 6pm

VU's Footscray Park Aquatic and Fitness Centre is located at Building L, Level 0, Footscray Park Campus. It's normally very quiet and is calm, with sweeping views of the Maribyrnong River.

It's open to the public and you can visit the 25-metre heated swimming pool as well as other gym and teaching rooms.

VU Sport offers Learn to Swim classes for babies, children and adults as well as school holiday sports programs for school-aged children.

Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre is a state-of-the-art multi-million dollar unique health and wellbeing hub with awesome facilities such as an Olympic-sized pool, two massive water slides, a kids’ splash park, warm water pool, learn-to-swim pool, onsite creche and cafe. Outside there's a skate park and fenced playground too.
