Whenever I have free time, I always love going out for high tea or afternoon tea with friends, family or even just by myself as it always proves to be a wonderful way of winding down after a long and tiring day.

Melbourne is home to a bunch of awesome locations that offer elegant and glamorous high tea experiences. To help you find the best one, I’ve made this round-up of the best high tea experiences  in Melbourne!

1. Langham Melbourne, Southbank

This is one of my favourite high teas in Melbourne CBD for the quality of the food and the ambience. In my opinion, what Langham Melbourne offers is the closest to a ‘London afternoon tea’ experience.

Begin the high tea with a traditional three-tiered stand featuring gourmet sandwiches and warm savouries. Fluffy scones are presented with strawberry and rose petal preserves, lemon curd and clotted cream. The whimsical sweet treat buffet includes a seemingly endless array of desserts lovingly crafted by the hotel’s pastry chefs.

Served with a glass of sparkling wine upon arrival and free-flowing espresso coffee, hot chocolate and loose-leaf Wedgwood teas.

2. Westin Melbourne

7. Damon Bradley, Southbank

Damon Bradley serves high tea daily with a three tier stand of cakes, teas and hand crafted finger sandwiches. Enjoy an array of sweet and savoury treats, including sandwiches, scones, and cakes, all while sipping on tea, coffee, and a delicious glass of Prosecco or Moscato Rose for $65 for per person (minimum of two)

At Little Collins Kitchen you can treat your loved ones to a delicious Signature High Tea and experience delicate teas paired with delectable treats! The experience also includes a glass of sparkling champagne or a glass of Moet Chandon champagne.

10. The Tea Rooms 1892

The Tea Rooms 1892 (formerly the famous Hopetoun Tearooms) is one of Melbourne’s most iconic cafés. Located in the Block Arcade, the café has been serving high tea to Melburnians and visitors drawn in by their magnificent cake window display since 1892.

Afternoon tea includes scones and sandwiches, such as their famous smoked salmon pinwheel sandwiches, but make sure you don’t leave without trying a slice of cake or a selection of petit fours to pair with your cup of tea.

Note that bookings for the high tea experience are essential. Walk in are allowed but they will only get to order from the ala cart menu.

11. Gardens House, Royal Botanic Gardens

Step back in time at Gardens House, set in Melbourne’s beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens, with their Retro Edition High Tea. Featuring a selection of sweet and savoury bites inspired by fun childhood flavours!

Enjoy nostalgic nibbles including a Hubba Bubba Macaron with Blackcurrant & Grape Nerds, Fairy Bread Lamington, Chicken Parmigiana Pie and more.

There are family friendly garden games to play, with morning or afternoon sessions available.

12. Pilgrim Bar

Need a kick to your high tea experience? The Pilgrim Bar’s Gin High Tea will get you buzzing all thanks to their three tea-infused cocktails, a decadent selection of sweet and savoury delights plus bottomless sparkling.

The Experience is a 2-hour session requiring a minimum of two people and is open Friday to Sunday from 12pm until 6pm.

13. Strangers Corridor

16. The Savoy Hotel on Little Collins, Melbourne

Looking for a gorgeous and sophisticated spot to enjoy high tea? Then you must check out Coombe Yarra Valley which sits on seven acres of beautifully maintained gardens and is the perfect spot to pamper yourself or a loved one with high tea!

Coombe Yarra Valley’s standard high tea offering includes finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with homemade jam and clotted cream, cakes and desserts served, plus free-flowing Coombe Sparkling NV. Their Premium High Tea offering includes everything in the standard package plus a Melba Bellini cocktail on arrival, Duck Terrine and Brioche lobster bun.

The Jardin Tan high tea menu features a selection of chef-selected sweet and savoury bites for you to indulge in as you sip on a glass of refreshing bubbly! The experience includes high tea staples such as homemade scones, tea and coffee, along with lots of savoury and sweet treats.

Note that High Tea is only available at 1pm or 2:30pm from Wednesday to Sunday. Additionally, bookings are essential and require 48-hour advance notice.

24. L’heure du thé, Prahan

Set in an Intimate lavish Parisian Salon setting that’s decorated with antique treasures of Anton Venoir’s private collection, feel as though you’ve been transported to Paris when you join L’heure du thé for their “A Journey to Paris Bottomless High Tea Experience”.

Each ticket for the Bottomless High Tea Experience includes a glass of French Champagne upon arrival, free flowing Blanc de Blancs, a selection of delicious French finger foods, tea and coffee. Vegetarian and pescatarian options are also available.

The Bottomless Parisian High Tea experience lasts around 2 hours and is available on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 am and 2:30 pm.

Visit Zimt Patisserie for high tea with sweet and savoury treats, plus your choice of drink (tea, coffee, smoothie or an iced drink). High Tea is $65 per adult and $40 for each child under 12 years old.

27. Olinda Tea House

Experience the best high tea experience but with an Asian Twist! 

The Olinda Tea House High Tea menu includes hot and cold savouries, a range of delicious Asian-influenced petit fours, plus Devonshire Tea!

You can also choose from their full range of international black, white or green teas, or indulge in a hot chocolate or espresso.

 28. Mansion Hotel, Werribee

The Pavilion High Tea at the Mansion Hotel Werribee Park boasts all the traditional elements and includes a glass of champagne, free-flowing T2 tea and freshly brewed coffee. There’s also a non-alcoholic option.

Sittings occur every Saturday at 12:30 pm and Sunday at 12:30pm & 3 pm for $85 per person including a glass of Mumm Champagne. High Tea for children are priced at $55.

29. Old Man Drew Cafe / Miss Violets Tea Rooms, Ascot Vale

Served on Saturday and Sunday from 3pm until 5pm, high tea at Miss Violets Tea Rooms is sure to be an utter delight.

In the opulent setting, you’ll dine with fine china, and enjoy a traditional high tea including a glass of champagne on arrival, hot and cold savoury finger food, followed by moreish scones, served with homemade raspberry jam and cream, small cakes, petit fours and fine chocolate. English Breakfast tea is served throughout the setting (coffee and herbal tea are available at an additional cost).
