Kristyna Hess is a freelance family photographer in Melbourne who also offers wedding photography, maternity and pregnancy photography, newborn photography and commercial photography.
However, when much of her work got cancelled due to recent events, she decided to offer โLockdown Portraitsโ of families or households living together. Not just to keep the income flowing, but to shoot documentary-style family portrait photography in order to tell the stories of families during the lockdown.
For each Lockdown Portrait, Kristyna shoots people outside their front door or in their front yard while she stands on the other side of the fence with her camera 4 metres away. Afterwards, she also documents peopleโs stories of quarantine, isolation and lockdown with a voice interview.
Each Lockdown Portrait family photography package starts from $69 for a 20-minute shoot, which includes one free high-resolution photo you can download to keep and covers Kristynaโs time. If you want to purchase more photos itโs $49 per image.
For our Lockdown Portrait family photoshoot I asked Kristyna to shoot my kids and me at the Newells Paddock wetlands near our house instead. Itโs where weโve been taking our daily walks in Footscray and the photos would be a Motherโs Day present for me. Because Iโm always behind the camera, and very rarely in the shot myself!
I’m sharing some of my favourite images with you here!
If youโre looking for a family photographer in Melbourne then I highly recommend Kristyna Hess. She captured all of us with beautiful light, natural expressions and even managed to get my kids to cooperate. She has three boys of her own so knows how to deal with kids!
Kristyna offers family photography in the western suburbs of Melbourne as sheโs based in Kingsville, but she will travel to other parts of Melbourne.
You can check out all the Lockdown Portraits and interviews on the Lockdown Portraits Facebook page. Kristyna is intending to offer the service for as long as this special and unusual period lasts.
