Bluey’s Big Play brings your favourite TV family to life!

Get the whole family to Arts Centre Melbourne to see your favourite Heelers in real-life in Bluey’s Big Play, showing from 18 – 23 January 2022.

Puppetry in motion is the name of the game with this family-friendly 50-minute performance! It’s a theatrical adaptation of the award-winning TV series with an original story by Bluey’s creator Joe Brumm, and new music by Bluey composer, Joff Bush.

bluey’s big play review

The story of Bluey’s Big Play is cleverly told with basic props and set designs to mimic the hit TV show and the narrative is heartfelt, with messages about family, feelings and fitting in.

The puppeteers are well-rehearsed and really get into the physical attributes and emotions of the characters during the performance, which makes it all the more magical.

Once the lights go down and the Rosella flocks fly past, you’ll forget you are watching puppeteers and will be immersed in the story.

There are get up and groove times, a LOT of singalong opportunities and general shouting and laughter from most of the audience members throughout the 50 minutes of stage time.

Note there is no interval at this performance, but the run time is just about right for little ones. It’s worth staying till the end to see the special surprise (and if you can get tickets in the dress circle, it is the best spot to see it)!

While the show is advertised for children 2+ years, I think the target audience is more likely to be kids about 3-8 years old. Any secretly Bluey-obsessed parents will still get a kick out of the show!

For younger kids it may help to download a Visual Story to help prepare them for the experience.

Arts Centre Melbourne is a wonderful venue for families. Everything is signed well and there are many ushers and security personnel to help direct you to the nearest toilets, candy bars or your seats.

There are plenty of toilets, change table facilities and places to sit and snack prior to the show. We felt really well looked after. As always at these licensed shows, you can find limited-edition merchandise, plush toys and clothing available for sale before the performance.

There are still tickets available for Bluey’s Big Play, for multiple dates and times. The online booking system makes it easy to book and choose your seats at a time that suits you, and tickets are sent directly to your email.

Shows are now running at full ticketed capacity with covid safe measures still in place. QR check-in codes at the venue is mandatory as well as including masks indoors for adults and children over 12.

We would absolutely recommend Bluey’s Big Play for younger kids and their adults who will be thrilled to see their favourite characters come to life!
