augie Eyewear is a new Australian kids eyewear company with a fresh approach to buying kids glasses frames!
It’s come just at the right time as Lady AB desperately needs new frames (she’s wearing her prescription glasses frames from 3 years ago that are waaay too small for her face) but we can’t get to an optometrist to try on glasses in person.

Who is augie Eyewear?
Parents Scott and Lana Arnold created augie Eyewear after experiencing first-hand the difficulty and frustration when it comes to purchasing frames for kids.
As parents of two kids with glasses they found the options to be overwhelming and even a little bit disappointing. When they went glasses shopping for their kids they found most of the frames were either a poor fit or themed in the latest kids cartoon character.
There seemed to be a massive gap in the market for kids glasses that were simple and stylish. They also knew they wanted to simplify the process of choosing kids optical frames, for both parents and kids.

How does augie Eyewear use AR?
The augie platform uses Augmented Reality to make buying glasses frames online easy. Their virtual try on glasses (which can be accessed via the augie website or your Instagram account) uses #augiereality filters within Facebook and Instagram. This makes it easy for you and your kid to find their favourite augie frames and share them with family and friends.

Once you try glasses online and make your choice you simply upload the prescription with your order. If you need blue light blocking lenses, these will be delivered with the frames directly to you.
Lana Arnold designed augie‘s unisex range based on on-trend adult styles, adapted to a fun colour palette that kids will adore.

augie‘s children’s kids glasses frames features seven classic and modern styles in two sizes – small (4-7 years) and large (8-13 years). Lana’s gone for a blend of fun and classic colours, including pink glitter, raspberry and hues of blues and greens, tortoiseshells, blacks and clears.
augie has also taken care of all your safety and quality concerns – the frames have kid-friendly features including silicone tips for easy adjustments at home by a parent and flexi-spring hinges giving them flexibility. All augie frames are made using cellulose acetate which is great for sensitive skin. Every pair of glasses frames is hand-polished.
augie also offers different lenses at different price points. Their premium and super-premium lenses are made from polycarbonate that are thinner and more lightweight than standard lenses, as well as being UV resistant. Polycarbonate is also used for sports glasses, so they are ideal for safety when put to the test of an active child’s lifestyle.

Does augie Eyewear offer multifocal or bifocal lenses?
At this stage augie Eyewear do not offer Bifocal or Progressive lenses online.
As Lady AB needs bifocal lenses for her myopia we purchase augie optical frames only – so we will still need to visit the optometrist to have them fitted with the lenses she requires.

How do I buy augie Eyewear?
Buying augie children’s glasses frames is a simple process! You just choose a size, frames style and colour, the lenses you need, upload your prescription and augie delivers your glasses directly to your door.
Lady AB has fun trying several frames via the Augmented Reality filter and quickly narrows down her choice to August in Blue Tortoiseshell. We don’t bother measuring the frame size and just for Large as she’s almost 10 years old.
A couple of clicks later and it’s in the cart and we buy!

While augie is based in Australia, they offer free worldwide shipping for purchases over $100 (children’s glasses frames start at $129). There’s also free a 60-day return policy – so if you want to you could purchase several try on glasses at home and return the frames that you don’t want (though the reason augie has gone with augmented reality virtual try ons is to avoid the environmental impact of shipping and returning trial pairs).
If you’re choosing to purchase augie spectacle frames and prescription lenses then it may take up to 10 days to dispatch your order, depending on the complexity of your child’s prescription. If you select ‘Frames Only’ then they will be dispatched within 48 hours.

Can I claim augie Eyewear on private health insurace?
augie Eyewear is a recognised provider with all major Australian private health insurance funds. This allows you to make annual claims against your child’s policy and be reimbursed for some of the kids prescription glasses cost in accordance with that policy. You simply take your augie Eyewear itemised invoice following your order confirmation and make a claim with your health fund.
For further information and details about your policy in relation to kids eyewear, you will need to contact your private health insurer.
