Play In Nature At Wyndham Park, Werribee

Located on the banks of the leafy Werribee River with two exciting playgrounds, Wyndham Park is a welcoming sanctuary of fun for families.

The biggest draw card of Wyndham Park for families is the main adventure playground located at the west end of the park, which has a variety of boisterous play equipment for young explorers.

With slides, swings, climbing ropes, a flying fox and a skate ramp, this playground promises to delight energetic kids with all its thrills. There’s even a massive tunnel slide that’s in a tower 11 metres high!

Then there’s the wide metal slide, great for sliding side-by-side. And for kids that love getting dizzy, there’s a hamster wheel to get inside and spin around in.

The entire playground area is covered in colourful soft surfaces, with mounds and different levels for little legs to run about easily.

A second spectacular playground is located at the east end of Wyndham Park and it’s a beautiful nature play space situated among native trees and shrubs.

This playground has a large water play area complete with pumps, dams and streams, a wooden playground with cubby and more soft climbing structures as well as the always popular sandpit with a digger.

There’s so much to do for sensory play here, which makes this one great for younger kids.

Along with the two large playgrounds, the recently upgraded Wyndham Park has well-maintained lawn areas, barbecues, picnic tables, public toilets, exercise equipment, other recreational areas, walking trails and lots of big trees and beautiful native greenery throughout.

My kids love being out in nature, and this park allows us to play in among the natural environment of the beautiful Werribee River.

Wide pathways make for good accessibility throughout the park, including a walking trail loop that takes you alongside the river and big Red Gumtrees. This makes it very pram-friendly and a perfect place for mums to catch up for a walk with locally brewed coffee or freshly baked snacks.

The best entry to the park is via Wyndham Bridge from Wedge Street Piazza, which is just off Watton Street in the centre of Werribee CBD. There’s also pedestrian access via Bicentennial Bridge from Comden Drive.

We recommend the parking area on Comden Drive, which has 3-hour parking on weekdays. Otherwise, you could park anywhere along Watton Street and walk across either of the treetop footbridges to Wyndham Park, enjoying the beautiful river and stunning trees along the way.

My kids always enjoy a trip on the train, so we love that Wyndham Park is very easy to get to via public transport! From Werribee Train Station, there’s ample signage to follow, and the walk is less than five minutes.

As well as being so close to Werribee Train Station, Wyndham Park is within easy walking distance to the huge variety of great food venues on Watton Street.

On a hot day, we love to spend the morning splashing about in the Wyndham Park water play area and then stop by Augustus Gelatery for an ice cream before heading home.

Or stop for a meal at Teddy Picker or Wolf on Watton or grab a yummy burger from Truck Stop Deluxe.

The Wyndham Art and Cultural Centre on Watton Street is worth a visit, and the Werribee Public Art Walking Trail, too; a self-guided trail and free audio tour.

Conveniently just 30 minutes from Melbourne CBD, Wyndham Park is one of many fun and exciting things families can do together in Werribee and Surrounds.
