Woodend Childrenโ€™s Park is a vast playground and recreation area in Woodend, a small town in the Macedon Ranges less than an hourโ€™s drive from Melbourne.

You can visit the playground plus the township in half a day though Woodend is also a popular place for mini-breaks for Melburnians due to its proximity to Macedon and Hanging Rock.

Woodend Childrenโ€™s Park comprises three main play areas bordered by bushland and large eucalyptus trees. The main area has two merry-go-rounds, a bank of swings, musical play equipment, two seesaws, a climbing frame and a climbing fort with a slide.

Another area is for slightly older kids, with a long zipline flying fox and  a tall octahedral rope climbing structure.

The third area is gated and thus perfect for runaway toddlers. It has more traditional playground equipment and the digger in the sandpit is a highlight.

Bench seating is dotted throughout all of the play area and there are a couple of barbecues available under a shelter. The play equipment is not really a lot of shade so bring your hat and sunscreen.

We spent about 2 hours at Woodend Childrenโ€™s Park and the kids just ran from one thing to another before they got hungry/tired. If youโ€™re not local itโ€™s well worth a special visit.

Woodend Childrenโ€™s Park plays host to the biannual Woodend Childrenโ€™s Festival and Woodend Halloween Party. More tips for visiting Woodend with families here.
