HOT: West Footscray Festival of Colours, West Footscray

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
The West Footscray Festival of Colours has got to be one of the most fun street parties in Melbourne! It’s a community event that celebrates the traditional Hindu festival of Holi by dousing Barkly Street West Footscray in a riot of colours. In 2020 it’s happening on Sunday 15 March on Barkly Street West Footscray.

Buy a packet of pastel coloured powder ($3 a packet or 4 packets for $10) and join in the colour throwing happening 11am-5pm in a designated area. Though to be honest it’s possible that colours may be thrown all day, everywhere!

For the best photographic effect wear an old white Tshirt that you’re happy to throw out/recycle afterwards. The colours can be hard to wash out…oh yes and keep your mouth closed when you’re throwing colours and watch out for your glasses!

As well as the market stands, food stalls and live entertainment there’s loads to keep kids entertained with giant bubbles, carnival activities, face painting, silent disco, roller disco, a Western Bulldogs handball competition and more.

West Footscray Festival of Colours

West Footscray Festival of Colours is run by West Footscray Neighbourhood House and is the area’s signature annual event. It gets bigger and better every year! Join in on the fun on Sunday 15 March 2020 at Barkly Village West Footscray.

HOT Tips:

  • Barkly Street is closed to traffic between Russell and Buxton Streets;
  • limited street parking in surrounding residential streets;
  • closest train station is West Footscray or cycle to the event;
  • do not wear your best clothing! Even if you have no intention in participating in the colour throwing you’ll likely be bombed with colour, accidentally or deliberately;
  • Colour throwing happens 11am-4pm in a designated area. However, it’s possible that people will throw colours at all times in all places!;
  • for the best photographic effect wear an old white Tshirt that you’re happy to throw out/recycle afterwards. H&M will recycle old textiles (even not their own) and each bag of textiles receives a 15% off voucher for a single H&M item.
  • keep your mouth closed when you’re throwing colours!
