HOT: Village Kids, Werribee Zoo, Werribee
Village Kids is a fun outdoor play space at Werribee Open Range Zoo which is adjacent to the indoor play space Ranger Kids (similar to the excellent Keeper Kids at Melbourne Zoo).
The adventure playground has a shady native bushland setting interspersed with African elements such as bright tribal masks.
The main structure is a metal and tin fort with supersized beads, a short slide suitable for toddlers and lots of squiggly colourful speaking posts.
The big basket swing is particularly popular with the kids and there are also a couple of log bridges that can act as short swings.

Another popular area for Baby 2.0 especially is the climbing mound and tunnel made of soft rubberised flooring which looks like the back of a giraffe! There are animal footprints on it and some spiky poles which lead to games of peekaboo.
A creek bed winds its way through the playground and is the site of lots of imaginative play by Lady AB. She pretends she is going on a bear hunt and walking through the river, that she is fishing off the bridge and playing ‘row row row your boat’.
Village Kids is a really appealing space and combined with Ranger Kids it makes a trip to the zoo even more exciting than just seeing the animals. As kids are free to visit Werribee Open Range Zoo during Victorian school holidays it's a great time to visit!
