TRAPT Melbourne Escape Room

A Unique Escape Room Experience in the Heart of Melbourne

The first thing you’ll notice about Trapt is its cool, slightly underground vibe. It’s located in the basement of an old building, giving it a mysterious, almost secret feel — the kind of place that sets the tone before you even step into your chosen escape room.

Trapt was one of the first escape room venues to open in Melbourne and it still holds its own, thanks to well-designed themes, atmospheric rooms, and friendly staff who clearly love what they do. Unlike some escape rooms that can feel overly difficult or a bit chaotic, Trapt strikes a nice balance — challenging enough for adults, but still achievable for teens with a bit of family teamwork.

Choosing Our Room

Our family opts for Alchemy, one of Trapt’s most popular rooms. It’s themed around a mysterious alchemist’s laboratory, complete with strange symbols, bubbling potions, and hidden clues. The goal? To find the philosopher’s stone before time runs out.

From the moment the door closes behind us, everyone gets into the spirit. The teens are immediately drawn to the tactile puzzles and cryptic patterns on the walls. There is a great mix of logical problems, pattern recognition, and a few physical elements that keep everyone engaged.

The puzzles are clever but not impossible — at the perfect level for families with older kids (ours are 13 and 15). When we hit a tricky spot, the game master offers just the right amount of guidance via a screen, so we never feel completely stuck.

By the final few minutes, we are racing against the clock to unlock the last secret, and when that final door clicks open, there are high-fives all around.

Why Teens Love It

Let’s face it — finding activities that genuinely entertain teens can be tough. Trapt Escape Room hits the sweet spot between fun and challenging, and it gets everyone off their phones for an hour of teamwork and problem-solving.

It’s also a great reminder that teens can be brilliant under pressure!

Watching my kids piece together clues and think creatively is half the fun. The immersive themes — from alchemy and science fiction to mythology and mystery — spark curiosity and imagination in a way few other activities can.

More Than Just Escape Rooms

What makes Trapt even better is its licensed bar and lounge area. If you arrive early, you can grab a mocktail or a drink before your session, and chat with the friendly staff about which room to choose next.

For parents, it’s a relaxed, welcoming space to unwind after the adrenaline rush.

Families with teens will appreciate that it’s not your typical “kids’ activity” venue — it feels grown-up and cool, making it ideal for older kids who are ready for something more sophisticated.

Tips for Families

  • Book ahead: Weekends and evenings can book out fast, especially for the more popular rooms.
  • Choose your theme wisely: Each room has a difficulty rating. “Alchemy” and “Science Lab” are great for first-timers and families with teens, while rooms like “Prisonbreak” or “Jungle” might suit those looking for an extra challenge.
  • Arrive early: You’ll need to check in and get a quick briefing before the game starts. There’s also time to grab a drink in the bar area.
  • Go with a group: Escape rooms work best with a team of 4–6 players. It’s a great group activity for families, especially if you’re celebrating a birthday or special occasion.
  • Don’t stress about getting stuck: The game masters are there to help if you need a hint — the experience is about fun, not frustration.
