HOT: The Tradesman, Moorabbin

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Tradesman is a bright beacon of culinary hope in amongst the greasy cafs and takeaway joints of  industrial Moorabbin.

The Tradesman Moorabbin

It’s a simple one-room affair with a smile and a toy box greeting you at the front door.

I scan the menu while Baby 2.0 is amused with the toys, colouring-in the kids menu and ABC3 for Kids on mute on the overhead TV.

The all-day menu demonstrates the chef’s inventiveness.

Baby 2.0 and I share the fish tacos – three large parcels of panko and oat-covered flathead tails, purple cabbage, carrot and corn slaw and a saffron mint aioli ($18.50). He also enjoys his ham and cheese toastie on multigrain from the kids menu ($7).

For dessert we share the red velvet pancakes, a signature dish of the cafe ($18). It’s three fat and fluffy pancakes topped with a ball of ice cream and brownie soil and surrounded by  vanilla marscopne and a garnish of berries, edible flowers and miniature greens. Definitely worth saving room for it!

The coffee is supplied by Code Black, tea from Tea Drop and hot chocolate from Mork Chocolate.

Without being prompted the waitress brings a plastic bowl for Baby 2.0 so that he can share the pancakes. There are bright plastic cups and crockery for little hands as well as high chairs and the aforementioned toys. I just wish they didn’t have the TV on – Baby 2.0 is hypnotised and I struggle to get him to focus on eating. It does mean that I have a quiet meal though!

The Tradesman is a great find in Moorabbin – a modern cafe in an area that’s sorely lacking in good coffee and food. It’s inner city sophistication while still maintaining a family-friendly vibe. They are open for breakfast, brunch and lunch 7 days a week, with Friday night dinners (and alcohol).
