Sesame Street Circus Spectacular, Westfield Southland
Sesame Street Circus Spectacular by Silvers Circus is a 90-minute circus show featuring all your favourite Sesame Street characters, including Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Bert and Ernie and Super Grover!

The excitement starts on arrival!

At the entrance there are photo opportunities against the bright backdrop – I particularly love the Elmo and Grover Smart cars!

Inside the smaller tent, it’s all Sesame Street-themed, from the two food trucks selling popcorn, doughnuts, ice cream and fairy floss, to the portable toilets.
The jumping castle is popular but note that it costs $4 a go, so we decline.

There are further paid photo opportunities with characters outside the famous porch of Sesame Street.
As we have 8-year-olds with us we are not as excited by the Sesame Street characters as we are by the actual circus acts. We are awed by the unicyclist, the insane hula hooping, the fast flips of the brother acrobats, the Wheel of Steel and the thrilling motorbike riders finale.

Note that there is a segment featuring dogs doing tricks. I’m sure that the animals are well cared for but I still admit that watching performing animals makes me uncomfortable. Given the amazing skills of the human performers, I wish that they would leave out the animals altogether.

Between each act, a Sesame Street character appears on stage, hamming it up with a loose storyline about finding a circus act to make their own.

The Sesame Street Melbourne show goes for 45 minutes, then a 15 minute interval and then another 30 minutes. The intermission is necessary, I assume, for set up and for audience toilet and snack breaks. Personally I’d prefer not to have the break as we lose momentum and concentration midway through.
We rush out just as the final segment is finishing up so that we can get out of the (free) car park ahead of the crowd.
The circus tent is huge with allocated seating and pretty much everywhere has a good view as it’s grandstand seating. Depending on the date, showtimes are at 10:30 am, 2:30 pm, 6:30 pm, and 7 pm. A slight delay in the start time means the show doesn’t finish until 9 pm. For a show aimed at families I think they could reconsider their start times to accommodate earlier bedtimes.
Sesame Street Circus Spectacular by Silvers opens in Westfield Southland from Friday 2 September – Sunday 9 October 2022, before touring other cities and regional centres across Australia and New Zealand.
