Roma Street Parkland is considered to be one of the two best examples of contemporary display gardens in Australia. It hosts many community events such as movie screenings, yoga classes and festivals.
For families I think the highlight of Roma Street Parkland are the playgrounds.

The Children’s Garden playground is split into two parts, both well-hidden amongst the trees and are semi-shaded. They are best suited to older kids as the climbing equipment can be somewhat challenging and there are lots of opportunities to wander off out of sight.
A visit to the Children’s Garden is also an opportunity to learn about horticulture and agriculture, with fruit and vegetable plants and a worm farm in operation.
As well as the playgrounds we explore the neat and trim Spectacle Garden and enjoy jumping over the stepping stones…
….finding the gap between the magnificent water wall…
…and simply running through the sprinklers on the Celebration Lawn!
For horticultural buffs there are different plantings within the Fern Gully, Forest, Pandanus Headland and you can spot water wildlife by the Lake Precinct.
A miniature Parkland Explorer trackless train takes you through the park in around 20 minutes and costs a gold coin donation, as it’s run by volunteers.
Cafe Melange overlooks the Celebration Lawn and serves breakfast, lunch and snacks 7 days a week.
Roma Street Parkland is a great destination for locals and visitors who are likely to be staying in/near the CBD. You can easily spend a whole day there exploring all the gardens and playgrounds, as well as enjoying a picnic, barbecue or special event.
