Riverwalk Village Park Werribee is one of Victoria’s largest free water play parks. It’s just fantastic for kids young and old!
The water park is part of Village Park, a community recreation and entertainment area built for residents of the new Riverwalk Estate. Village Park is also open to the public and includes the water park, playground, picnic and barbecue shelters, a grassy amphitheatre, basketball court and skate zone.
The water park opens over summer (October to March) from 9am-8pm and over winter (April to September) 10am-5pm. The water jets only come on when the weather is reasonably hot ie over 25 degrees and are activated by silver push buttons in the play area.
When we arrived it was less than 27 degrees but the kids still had fun playing with the water features, including pumps, drills, dams, water wheels and troughs.
We also explored the colourful playground, which includes lots of climbing equipment, swings, and sandpit – though the digger was the biggest hit with truck-obsessed Baby 2.0.
As the temperature climbed up and up – suddenly the water jets came on! Such squeals of excitement as everyone got in on the action.
I was really impressed by the number of different water features in the water park. This isn’t just a few jets and puddles – the whole place was completely swamped with water.
The most popular piece of equipment was probably the big swinging fire engine hoses but Lady AB loved squeezing under, over and around the misters and jets which run on a 30 minute cycle. Just look at the delight on her face!

As you’d expect from a large water play area, it will sometimes be slippery so parents should closely supervise young kids. From experience I recommend that you get into bathers too as there is absolutely no way to avoid getting wet.
My only quibble with the water play area was that I wished it was fully fenced. This would prevent kids in the playground who didn’t have bathers from entering the space and kids from the water play area running off into the playground without shoes. I had quite a painful (and somewhat self-conscious) experience in my bathers mincing around tan bark while chasing Baby 2.0 back and forth from the playground to the water park.
