HOT: Play School Live in Concert: Once Upon A Time national tour

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Play School Live in Concert: Once Upon A Time tour brings the characters and presenters of Australia’s most beloved kids program out of the television and into our suburbs in charming fashion.

Play School has been the beloved standard-bearer for kids television in Australia for more than 50 years. While the theme song has been recorded a few times through the years, the show is still almost defiantly analogue, and the songs, sets and themes are as comfortable and familiar as your favourite slippers.

Play School was a staple of my childhood and, along with Sesame Street, has been the program of choice for my kids as well. The chance to see Alex and Abi at Essendon’s Ukrainian House at the weekend is one I can’t pass up – especially as El Guapo, almost 4, is perhaps nearing the end of his Play School days.

The room is packed with parents who seem almost as excited as the children, aged from babes in arms through to seven or eight years.

Alex and Abi get a rock star welcome when the theme song plays, and I find myself oddly near tears during this special bonding moment with my excited son, who is clutching his new Jemima ballerina under his arm.

The presenters bring favourite characters to life through a larger-than-life storybook, and the audience is soon shouting “Once upon a time!” to help the pages turn when they get stuck.

There are plenty of laughs and lots of action songs, including Incy Wincy Spider, Humpty Dumpty, Der Glumph, and Heads and Shoulders. At 40 minutes, the show isn’t especially long, but is a perfectly suitable length for most of the young audience.

Play School Live in Concert: Once Upon A Time is a delightful show for babies, toddlers, preschool and even early-school-aged children (depending on their interests, naturally). It’s something special for parents, too – don’t underestimate the nostalgia effect![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text el_class=”thon-hot-tips-panel”]HOT Tips:
The show is recommended for age 12 months+ but is suitable for younger children too – pick a show that doesn’t interrupt naptime if possible so you can both get the most out of it.
Children aged under 12 months on the day of the show do not need tickets.
Arrive early for best position. Seating is in a horseshoe formation around the stage, then the floor area is open for seating.
No prams or pushers are permitted in the auditoriums.
Photos without flash are permitted. Video recording is not permitted (though I spy a number of over-eager parents breaking the rules…)
Presenters vary throughout the touring schedule – check the website for the presenters for your particular venue and date.
