From Saturday 16 January to Tuesday 26 January 2016 the National Gallery Victoria on St Kilda Road (NGV International) and Ian Potter Centre at Federation Square (NGV Australia) are hosting more than 50 FREE events for families as part of the popular NGV Kids Summer Festival.
This year the festival’s activities are inspired by current summer exhibitions Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei, Studio Cats and Our Land is Alive: Hermannsburg Potters for Kids.
Our highlights from today’s visit include…
….a kitten live drawing class with Kat Chadwick (though Baby 2.0 is more interested in cuddling them)…
…making Wishing Flowers with Pip Lincolne and creating a large-scale paper flower mural inspired by Ai Wei Wei’s work and…
….exploring the cutest cat house ever!
Other cool events we’re hoping to check out during the eleven-day festival include:
- colourful collage making with Laura Blythman;
- working with the Home-Work studios to create a screen-printed masterpiece at NGVA,
- The Sage Garden’s planting workshop; and
- Kitten finger puppets with Meetoo and tiny and little.
Full program available at ngv.vic.gov.au.
HOT Tips:
- all of the sessions are free and drop-in, so get there right at the start at 10am or close to 3pm when it finishes (gallery closes at 5pm). It gets really, really busy;
- not all workshops are available every day. If there’s a specific workshop/performance you want to attend check the calendar and double-check at which gallery it’s being held; and
- Check out my Top 10 attractions to visit with kids this summer at NGV.
