[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Melton Library is a spectacular library and learning hub in the heart of Melton CBD. It was designed by award-winning Australian architects FJMT and was also the first library in Australia to be awarded a 5 star Green Star in 2013.
It’s one of the most beautiful modern libraries in Melbourne, up there with Library at the Dock and Bunjil Place (also one of FJMT’s projects).

The library is tall and wide and framed by over-sized timber beams. Sunshine pours from the floor to ceiling windows and vertical beams curve around the two floors. The space is a photographer’s delight!
As you enter the ground floor there’s a CommuniTea cafe on the left. I like the gorgeous neon light fixtures and bright pink bar stools. The bright space is a great place to relax with lots of free reading material. Unfortunately it’s is not open on our visit on a Sunday.
On the right is the main entrance to the library and a City of Melton Customer Service desk.
At the back half of the ground floor is the children’s area. It contains fun sunken cushions and bean bag seating, bench seats along the windows – and of course lots of books.
Upstairs there is a ‘teen lounge’ with study spaces and three large screen TVs and gaming consoles.
Another notable area in the library is the upstairs circular bench seat and corresponding playful Boss Pendant light fixtures.
The building also houses Maternal and Child Health Services, meeting rooms, recording and editing studios, parents room and a theatre auditorium.
Melton Library is an inspiring place to work, study and relax and a example of excellent sustainable civic design. If you’re in the area it’s worth visiting. Take your camera!
