The picturesque village is located on the South South Gippsland Highway between Foster and Leongatha and the reason for its existence is that there was one a train station now. Now itโ€™s better known for its environmental and sustainable practices. It was the first “Waste Wise Village” in Australia, and is Plastic Bag Free.

The Koonwarra Food and Wine Store is a foodies paradise. It is a hub for local producers, offering South Gippsland wines, artisan cheeses and store-made produce.

The simple menu, including kids menu, features the best of Gippsland produce and everything is made on site.

We find that our savoury main courses are ok without being spectacular, so make sure you leave room for dessert which IS spectacular. The lemon tart contains a slightly runny and well-balanced sweet filling encased a buttery fluted pastry shell. The fruit crumble is just as good, with a light oaty crumble topping stewed berries.

You can choose to sit inside the cosy wooden interior or relax in the gorgeous gardens with even a goldfish pond and cubby house for play.

Koonwarra Food and Wine Store also host dinners occasionally and Koonwarra is famous for its Farmers Market that is held on the 1st Saturday of each month.
