Enjoy Free Kids Activities at Prahran Market, South Yarra

Turn tedious grocery shopping into a fun expedition with the family by heading to Prahran Market, just off Chapel St in South Yarra.

If you’re looking for things to do in Prahran then the undercover market has enough stores to make a trip to the market interesting (particularly the free tastings available at the deli hall!) without being too overwhelming.

Prahran Market is also really smart about marketing to a part of its core clientele – the yummy mummies (and daddies) of affluent Prahran and its surrounds.

Free things to do with babies, toddlers & preschoolers

Prahran Market hosts free kids activities every week that are perfect for school holidays or during term time for pre-school aged kids.

Every Tuesday from 10.30 – 11.30 am Eat for Life run ‘Mini Marketeers’ a free, guided activities teaching toddlers the fundamentals of eating well and putting the ‘yum’ in healthy food choices.

Children’s face painting is now hand and arm painting, with Alyssa at the markets from 9:30am to 12:30pm each Thursday. There is a dedicated painting zone set up, with space for Alyssa and one child. Brushes are carefully and comprehensively cleaned between each use.

The Mexican Music Man is also at Prahran Market from 10am to 12pm each Thursday. Kids are invited to bring their own instrument (homemade instruments included!) to join in, and the microphone and any instruments are not shared.

If weekend visits to Prahran Market fit into your schedule more easily then there is also live music between 12 and 3pm every Saturday and Sunday.

After play time I recommend grabbing a falafel pocket from The Falafel Man, making a visit to Noisette bakery’s stand and capping of your fun day with an ice cream treat from Fritz Gelato!
