The Foodrinkery is a well established family-friendly cafe in Burwood but they have recently gained new owners and we were invited to visit.

The Foodrinkery is located in a quiet suburban strip of shops but it is in a prime position because its proximity to Wattle Park Primary School, Spectrum dance school and a playground. The Foodrinkery makes the most of its location by opening the gate of their back courtyard directly onto the park.

The inside area is pretty small and squashy for prams though it is very cute with the whitewashed furniture and quirky decor.

If the weather’s fine I recommend heading straight to the courtyard, entering via the back gate. There’s more space to move, there’s a stash of toys in the corner and the tables with cafe umbrellas are overlooked by a cheerful dreamscape mural.

The menu is simple cafe standards and includes kids options. Children are provided with plastic crockery and cutlery automatically which is very thoughtful.

I try the Green Breaky full of healthy greens and nuts and protein, my friend has the smashed avocado with Meredith goats cheese and chilli on Noisette bread and the kids have a fried egg with bacon and a Vegemite and cheese sandwich.

All the savoury dishes are cooked well without being particularly noteworthy.  The highlight is our sole sweet choice – the strawberry and tapioca with yoghurt, a light, slightly sweet and refreshing breakfast dish or dessert.

Afterwards the playground beckons. We troop out with our takeaway gingerbread men and the kids climb, run and play until the rain starts.
