Melbourne heat wave = daily gelati tasting. And while Miinot Gelato is hidden away in Pascoe Vale South it’s well worth the trip. If you’re local, lucky you!

The tiny shop is on a main road but not really close to anything else – no cafes or shops near it. Nevertheless, on my arrival there is a long patient queue of gelati hunters who had obviously made a special trip there, so I know that I am in for a treat. Lady AB spots the friendly gelato first!

Miinot Gelato make all their gelati on site using traditional Italian methods. Their product only uses real fruit and nuts and high quality Jersey milk. The gelati is made fresh daily, by hand, so each batch is unique, and flavours change daily, ranging from traditional to more experimental.

I try their pavlova and bacio, both with a velvety lightness that comes with being freshly churned. I do find them a little too sweet but not enough to give me a toothache!

The only downside to Miinot Gelato is that there’s nowhere to sit. The bench inside is only really for people waiting to order their gelato, and there’s no outdoor seating. It’s strictly a take away affair and we perch ourselves on a derelict shopfront step while tucking into our ice cream.
