Find Me a Castle is Melbourne designer Beci Orpin’s first foray in children’s literature. It’s a bright and cheery interpretation of the classic look-and-find book, with lots of hidden things to discover on each page.
Each double page has a theme – whether it’s a bathroom or the city of the seaside. The rollicking rhymes give clues as to what you’re looking for. Sometimes the instructions are direct ‘find me a dinosaur’ and sometimes it’s a bit more cryptic ‘something to draw with’.
Both Baby 2.0 and Lady AB have had great fun with this book and every time we find something new as there are layers and layers of hidden objects each time, even down to the endpapers. We haven’t even gotten around to finding the castles!
To coincide with the launch of Find Me a Castle, Lamington Drive is hosting a free solo exhibition by Beci Orpin. The single room includes larger-than-life illustrations from the book so kids can enjoy looking and finding on the gallery walls. Note that there’s no text in the gallery so to play look-and-find you’ll need to buy/bring the book – or I just stood in the middle of the gallery and asked Lady AB to find things as I spotted them.
Some of the elements are interactive too, such as the hot and cold taps and the giant toothbrush.
‘Find Me a Castle’ books, prints and limited edition vinyl stickers of graphics from the book are available for purchase now from Lamington Drive. Official publication date of the book is Wednesday 26 August.
