Game Worlds at ACMI โ€“ A Must-See Exhibition for Families

Calling all gamers โ€“ big and small! Melbourneโ€™s ACMI has launched Game Worlds, an interactive exhibition thatโ€™s part nostalgia trip, part hands-on fun, and 100% family-friendly. Open now until Sunday 29 March 2026, this exhibition is perfect for families looking for something unique to do in the city.

Game Worlds ACMI

Step Inside 50 Years of Gaming History at ACMI

Game Worlds takes you on a journey through the worlds that have defined gaming across generations. From classic favourites like The Sims, Neopets, and World of Warcraft to modern blockbusters including Minecraft, Stardew Valley, Final Fantasy XIV Online, and The Elder Scrolls Online, thereโ€™s something here for everyone.

For those eagerly awaiting the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong, this exhibition is a chance to get up close to rare design materials and exclusive insights you wonโ€™t find anywhere else.

In total, the exhibition features over 30 videogames spanning five decades, with 44 playable moments, original builds, prototypes, and even behind-the-scenes design sketches.

Game Worlds

Hands-On Fun for Kids (and Parents!)

This isnโ€™t just a โ€œlook but donโ€™t touchโ€ exhibition. Game Worlds has been designed with interactivity in mind. Families can play their way through pixelated adventures, build virtual cities, and even lie back on beanbags to take in beautifully animated game worlds.

On top of the classics, kids (and adults) will love discovering four brand-new microgames created exclusively for ACMI by Australian developers. Theyโ€™re playful, surprising, and made to be explored together.

Game Worlds
