HOT: The Forge Pizzeria, Ballarat

The Forge Pizzeria in Ballarat is an award-winning pizzeria inhabiting a huge warehouse-style space in a 19th century building.

The interior decor is a softened industrial look, with exposed brickwork, concrete floors and recycled timber tables and vintage seating. There's loads of space to move and park prams.

True to its name, the centrepiece at The Forge Pizzeria are two red glowing pizza ovens operating just like an old-fashioned blacksmith’s forge.

When we are given the menus we don't even bother looking at the entrees and headed straight to the pizzas. You can't go wrong with a classic Margherita! Personally, I like my pizza base thinner and crisper but I like the fact that none of the pizzas are oily or greasy and include interesting ingredient combinations.

While we wait for our food the kids happily amuse themselves at the back play area.

It is one of the most stylish restaurant kids areas I’ve seen, with miniature vintage school chairs, wooden beaded toys, colouring pencils and colouring-in templates, a huge chalkboard with fat coloured chalk and a wall pinned full of artistic creations.

The Forge Pizzeria is a relaxed and stylish place to eat when you’re in Ballarat, especially if you have kids in tow. A family-friendly dining destination we would love to have in Melbourne!
