Emerald Lake Model Railway is a kitsch attraction inside Emerald Lake. If you have little train fans it’s a must-do. It’s the largest running model railway in the Southern Hemisphere!
The model railway is a family-run business and is pretty low-key in its operation. Pay the entry fee ($7 adults, $4 children), go behind the black curtain then grab a stool for a view of a miniature world.
As protective rail surrounds the display so curious little fingers can’t reach inside. There are still a few buttons to press to activate various elements.
You can play ‘I spy’ to your heart’s content (look for the moving chickens!)….

Emerald Lake is one of the stops on the Puffing Billy and offers other attractions, including pedal boats on the lake, playgrounds, picnic areas, fishing and walking tracks. Together with the Emerald Lake Model Railway it makes a great day out!
