Livvi’s Place Craigieburn (otherwise known as Craigieburn ANZAC Park) is a large scale parkland in Melbourneโs north. Itโs the site of an accessible play space developed in conjunction with Touched by Olivia Foundation.
Livvi’s Place Craigieburn is a spacious, fully fenced play space designed so that children with disabilities can still use much of the equipment, with fully accessible paths and appropriateย equipment.

While there’s landscaping throughout the park thereโs a small patch with nature-inspired play, with logs and rocks for climbing and balancing.
I really like the musical elements – the xylophone and percussive pipes – which produce a sonorous and melodious sound rather than a clangy clatter.
The water play isย a turning tap leading to a small stream but a large water table with cascading falls of water is being installed as we speak.

The water trickles along next to the sand play area with a digger which benefits from a little bit of shade depending on the time of day.
There are several swings – a few in a semi-circle facing each other and an accessible swing.
More challenging equipment includes the small ropes course and rock climbing hillock in the centre of the park.
The playground is not shaded but within the fenced area there areย shaded picnic benches and seating, an unsheltered BBQ area and water taps. The designers have been intelligent with their slides and not used potentially hot metal or plastic but cool concrete instead.
Outside the fence youโll find the toilets.
Craigieburn ANZAC Park is also the site of the soon-to-open Splash Aqua Park and Leisure Centre (slated for July 2017), the Athletics field and across the road from the Hume Global Learning Centre (one of Melbourneโs best libraries) and Craigieburn Central shopping centre. The ANZAC reference comes from the war memorial nearby.
Craigieburn ANZAC Park is a well-designed play space with enough equipment to spend a half day there. I like some of the more unique elements and of course, itโs great to add another accessible playground to the list.
