Circus 1903: Roll Up For Award-Winning Circus Melbourne

The circus has come to town in a way unseen since the turn of the century!

Circus 1903 brings the magic of old-world circus to Melbourne, complete with acrobatics, contortionists, juggling, high-wire acts and plenty of humour.

When Circus 1903 last performed in Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in 2017, the kids at that time (aged 7 and 4) were amazed, entertained and completely inspired by the performance.

We expect more of the same in their January 2024 performances at Arts Centre Melbourne!

Circus 1903 review

While Circus 1903 delivers many marvellous tricks, the undeniable highlight is the breathtaking double act of huge puppets of a mother elephant and calf.

Yes, elephants have returned to the circus!

The puppeteers behind the award-winning show ‘War Horse’ have outdone themselves with these enormous puppets that not only look like elephants but move exactly like their muses. They absolutely come to life.

The kids in the audience were delighted and amazed, as were the adults!

A ringmaster with the charm and wit of an old-time travelling salesman ties the acts together seamlessly.

Circus 1903 has the glamorous period costumes, stage design and music of a stage show and the amazing feats of a circus including illusionists, contortionists, balancing acrobats and much more. It’s a blend that works remarkably well and makes for a great show to take the kids along to.

Note that photography is strictly prohibited during the show (photos were supplied for this article) but there may be some cute photo-op boards dotted around.
