Get ready to blast off with the awesome rocket ship park at Buckingham Reserve Sunshine West!
Buckingham Reserve Sunshine is one of the best adventure playgrounds in Melbourne’s West.
The playground is part of a larger project to improve Buckingham Reserve with creek-side trails, observation decks, picnic areas, parking and active recreational facilities.
The enormous shiny rocket ship is the highlight of the playground, and the reserve. When Lady AB sees it she shouts ‘It’s beautiful!’. And it is.
There are so many features in this rocket ship playground that it’s hard to know where to look.
For older kids the obvious attraction is the slide twisting down the spaceship plus the chain bridge leading to a steep metal slide.
Then there’s the dual flying fox, rock walls and the rope spider’s web to climb.
For younger kids there’s an intricate water play area with a system that pulls up water – Baby 2.0 doesn’t know what hits him!

Plus a shaded sandpit, various animals on springers, some shorter slides in the rubber soft fall area and clambering ‘rocks’ to get back up the slope.
New trees have been planted to encourage nature-based imaginative play – but for the moment, let’s blast off!
