Do you love ice cream? Then Billy Van Creamy is your dream come true – a cute ice cream store that delivers AND a food truck and cart scooping out handmade artisanal ice cream. Move aside Mr Whippy!

Billy Van Creamy started out supplying festivals out of its truck and after a year of success opened its first permanent store in North Fitzroy village.

It’s a bright and fun space and the cartoonish pictures of ice cream scoops on the window and the walls draw in the hungry crowds.

The store offers classic flavours out of its pozzetti as well as making up decadent shakes and ice cream sandwiches ($9). The ice cream doesn’t contain any artificial colouring or preservatives, synthetic stabilisers or emulsifiers – just organic milk, fresh cream, raw sugar and free range egg yolks. There are also vegan options!
Everything is made fresh daily on site.

We try the creamy vanilla bean with black flecks from the pod, a very sweet honeycomb and a crisp sorbet of dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan-friendly coconut sorbet sandwiched between two decadent Butterbing brownie cookies.

Note the $5 single scoops are extremely generous and you don’t really need a double scoop!
I like how they offer real bowls and cutlery for in-store diners, cutting down unnecessary (plastic) waste.

The ice cream is delicious and the lines are out the door the sunny Sunday afternoon are a testament to its popularity.
If you’re visiting Bargoonga Nganjin North Fitzroy Library or Edinburgh Gardens then Billy Van Creamy is just a hop skip and jump away on St Georges Road. Go on, indulge yourself!
