Berwick Springs Hotel with Kids (and Grandparents too)

Huge indoor playground, spacious dining and a menu for all ages โ€” this is an easy win for families.

We arenโ€™t expecting to be this impressed, but Berwick Springs Hotel turns out to be such a fun, easy family outing. The kids make a beeline straight for the enormous indoor play area (and donโ€™t want to leave), while we actually get to sit and enjoy our meal โ€” a rare win. The bistro is spacious and relaxed, with something on the menu for everyone from toddlers to grandparents. It does get busy, so booking ahead and choosing an earlier time makes all the difference.

Why Kids Love Berwick Springs Hotel

The standout: a seriously big indoor play area

Letโ€™s start with what most families come for โ€” the Berwick Springs Hotel kidsโ€™ play space.

The indoor playground (often referred to as โ€œKidโ€™s Planetโ€) is a major drawcard and one of the largest youโ€™ll find attached to a restaurant in Melbourneโ€™s southeast. Think bright, energetic and packed with climbing structures and interactive elements that keep kids entertained for ages.

From experience, this is the kind of place where:

  • Kids disappear within minutes
  • You actually get to finish a meal while itโ€™s still hot
  • And they beg to stay longer

The climbing boulders in the centre of the playroom are my kidsโ€™ highlight โ€” and itโ€™s easy to see why. Theyโ€™re right in the middle of the action, constantly busy, and perfect for kids who love to climb and challenge themselves.

Parents will also appreciate that the play area is positioned so you can keep an eye on the kids while seated nearby (although depending on where youโ€™re sitting, itโ€™s not always direct line of sight).

A spacious, casual bistro made for families

This is not a quiet, intimate dining experience โ€” and itโ€™s not trying to be.

The bistro is large, open and designed to handle families, groups and celebrations. Whatโ€™s worth planning for:

  • Plenty of seating and room for big groups
  • A relaxed, casual pub atmosphere
  • A lively, sometimes noisy environment (especially on weekends)

Itโ€™s the kind of place where no one stresses about kids being a bit loud โ€” because everyone elseโ€™s kids are too.

The food: classic pub meals with plenty of choice

The menu leans into crowd-pleasing pub favourites with something for everyone:

  • Pasta, parmas and steaks
  • Family-friendly options and kids meals
  • Gluten-free and vegan choices available

We find the food to be good value and generous in size, especially for classic pub dishes.

Go in expecting solid, reliable pub food rather than a gourmet dining experience โ€” and youโ€™ll likely leave happy.

A win for grandparents: the seniors menu

One of the underrated features here is the dedicated seniors menu.

Itโ€™s a great option if youโ€™re dining with grandparents, offering:

  • Smaller portions
  • Good value pricing
  • Familiar, comforting meals

Itโ€™s these small touches that make it an easy pick for multi-generational catch-ups.

What other families are saying

Weโ€™ve asked our readers, and a few themes come up again and again for Berwick Springs Hotel:

What families love:

  • โ€œGiant kids play areaโ€ that keeps children entertained
  • Easy, relaxed atmosphere for groups
  • Kidsโ€™ meals arriving quickly
  • Plenty of space and seating

One reader, Annie, summed it up perfectly โ€” kids disappear into the playroom while adults actually get to enjoy themselves.

Final verdict

Berwick Springs Hotel is one of those places that just works for families.

Itโ€™s not fancy. Itโ€™s not quiet. But it is:

  • Easy
  • Spacious
  • Kid-focused
  • And genuinely enjoyable for all ages

If your kids love climbing, exploring and having space to play โ€” and youโ€™d like to sit down for a meal without rushing โ€” this is a solid go-to in Melbourneโ€™s southeast.

Perfect for a casual family dinner, a catch-up with grandparents, or even a birthday celebration where the entertainment is built in.
