Beku Gelato is an artisanal gelateria in Lygon St in East Brunswick. Itโs the first foray into a permanent shopfront for the folks behind The Rolling Scoops, who currently sell wholesale and โrollโ out their ice cream bike for events.
While the shopfront is small, the store scoops unusual Asian-inspired flavours that rival some of the bigger gelato stores in Melbourne.
Each tasting stick lets you try a flavour on each end, so I recommending picking your top two before selecting your flavour from the inset pozzetti.

On my visit, the Asian flavours include durian, teh tarik (pulled milk tea) and Turkish delight though traditionalists can still order chocolate and raspberry.
Everything is made fresh daily at a site close to the store and the gelato does not contain any artificial preservatives or colouring.
Baby 2.0 has the raspberry, chock full of real fruit, while I have coconut sorbet with jackfruit bits.
The dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan-friendly sorbet is so smooth and creamy that itโs hard to believe it contains no milk or cream. Highly recommended.
Baby 2.0 similarly devours his gelato happily, declaring it delicious. I try a little and my mouth explodes with pure fruit flavours. Itโs raspberry distilled into frozen form.
When itโs busy thereโs not much seating inside or out, so you might have to take your frozen treats away.
Beku Gelato is doing its own thang with gelato so if youโre up to experimenting with Asian-flavoured gelato itโs worth a special trip while the weatherโs warm.
