A reader directed me to a great fenced playground called Batman Park in Northcote and I’m pleased to report that it is just fantastic.
Batman Park has a perimeter fence and it meant my visit was actually a relaxing experience, buy rather than an interval training session with me running from one child to another trying to prevent them from hurting/killing themselves.
The large playground is generally well-tended, dosage with native plantings and large trees providing some cover, link including a ring bench surrounding a tall tree in the centre of the playground. There’s an unfortunate smattering of graffiti but it didn’t detract too much from the space.
The kids’ favourite equipment was the carousel, double seesaw and the wooden train engine dubbed ‘Thomas’. There are two seats and two steering wheels, you can climb all over it and even pretend it pull it into the station ‘Batman Park’.
There are two climbing structures, both wooden/plastic/metal play forts with climbing frames, slides, bridges and various tactile activities like a clock and coloured beads.

There are also two banks of swings, including a liberty swing and two safety swings side by side which meant I could push both kids at the same time.
The small sandpit area is unshaded and you’ll need to BYO bucket and spade.
