Are you looking for a special Christmas outing with the family that will warm your heart (and maybe bring on a few tears)?

Experience the timeless tale of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in Melbourne as the award-winning Old Vic production returns to Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre this holiday season. It returns with a new Melbourne cast in 2025. Tickets will go on sale at 10 am on Thursday, 25 September!

A Christmas Carol has been one of my Christmas event highlights in previous years and I highly recommend seeing this joyous and uplifting production with older kids.

A Christmas Carol: A Magical Journey Through Christmases Past, Present, and Future

A Christmas Carol unfolds on Christmas Eve as Ebenezer Scrooge counts down the seconds until the holiday season passes. Deeply entrenched in his misery, Scrooge receives a visit from four ghosts who whisk him away on a transformative journey through Christmases past, present, and future.

As Scrooge revisits fragments of his life, the audience is taken on a heartwarming and thought-provoking adventure, filled with choices and redemption.

Conceived and directed by Matthew Warchus, the mastermind behind Matilda the Musical, and adapted for the stage by Jack Thorne of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child fame, A Christmas Carol promises the perfect holiday treat for families.

Filled with everyoneโ€™s favourite carols, stunning vocals, humour, lavish costumes and beautiful hand-bell ringing, A Christmas Carol is a gorgeous production that embodies the true meaning of the season.

A Christmas Carol is recommended for audiences aged 8 and above. I think the age recommendation is spot on. The show contains periods of low lighting/darkness and supernatural themes that may not be suitable for all children.

At 11 years old, Lady AB is the perfect age because sheโ€™d read the book, knew the story (better than me!) and could sit for the whole 2-hour show (plus 20 minute interval).

A Christmas Carol is a reminder of the power of kindness and love, making it the perfect tradition for families seeking the true spirit of Christmas. Thereโ€™s even a touch of snow!
