Flinders Hotel is a slick refurbishment of the traditional corner pub in Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula.
The pub has made a name for itself with its designer accommodation (The Quarters), seek a high end one hat restaurant (Terminus) and excellent family-friendly eatery (The Deck).
The Deck includes an indoor area which needs to be booked and an outdoor walk-in area. The menu is the same in both spaces.
If you eat as early as we do (5pm) then you should have no problem getting an outdoor table.
The menu is high-end gastropub fare with pub classics, Modern Australian main courses and dry aged grass fed steaks.
T ordered a traditional saffron-tinged paella which came in its own hot pan ($34). While it lacked the crusty bottom that typifies an authentic paella the flavours were true and the rice was properly cooked.
I ordered the baked whole baby bย ย ย arramundi ($34). It was magnificent – a glorious riot of colour from the tabbouleh and pearl couscous along with fish that was incredibly fresh, flaking easily off the bone and with a clean flavour.

The kids menu includes grilled chicken or fish with kipfler potatoes and beans, fish or fish cakes with salad and chips and spaghetti bolognaise ($12-$14). The childrenโs meal looked healthy and delicious but sad to say our kids were too engrossed by the on site playground to pay much attention to dinner.
Some online reviews of The Deck have indicated that theyโve received poor service but we found the staff very helpful, especially when we switched tables twice, needed more napkins etc etc. They were very pleasant and friendly dealing with two boisterous children and parents needing to eat in a hurry.
My only regret was that we didnโt have time to have dessert as we had to wrangle the kids to bath and bed. But weโll definitely be returning to The Deck at Flinders Hotel to sample more of the menu. Itโs not really a budget-friendly option but for the setting and the food I think itโs worth a drive to visit even if youโre not staying at The Quarters.
