HOT: I Wanna Be a Mermaid, Coco’s Lunch, Artplay, Birrarung Marr, Melbourne

Coco’s Lunch are an a capella female singing group that have been together for almost 15 years. They recently performed songs from their children’s EP ‘I Wanna be a Mermaid‘ at ArtPlay and it was a really enjoyable concert experience.

Most of the songs had a sea theme covering surfing, sea animals, mermaids and pirates. The songs were fun, the tight harmonies were surprisingly sophisticated and the singers covered a range of music genres from jazz to reggae. All the while dancing, playing instruments and encouraging kids to clap, shout and sing along.

It was the first concert that Lady AB actually participated in of her own accord, trying to copy the movements and instructions to wave her arms and ‘do the goofy foot’.

At the end of the concert everyone was allowed to have a play on some percussion instruments including the rain stick and the drums. Lady AB actually really wanted to touch the flute but as I didn’t let her she substituted putting a silver spoon to her lips sideways to mimic the flute she saw.
