Alfa Bakehouseย Yarraville has extended their reach to neighbouring Seddon with a large shiny new cafe on Victoriaย Street – Alfa Bakehouse Seddon.

The site houses a large open kitchen within a chic industrial space designed by local architects Bassett Lobaza. All exposed bricks and pipes and brushed metal lamps with a curved subway-tiled cake counter hoveringย like an impressive spaceshipย at the back.

Unlike the flapship Yarraville cafe thereโ€™s no outdoor area for kids to play but the indoor dining area has plenty of room for prams and options for seating.

During my visit a large Motherโ€™s group was ensconced in the corner banquette with prams and babies (you can book), try while other patrons dotted around the small tables. My pick would be the padded bench at the front with the sun behind your back.

They serve Espresso di Manfredi coffee and to start I tried a creamy chai latte which was a bit too sweet and not spicy enough for my taste. ย

In terms of food thereโ€™s an all day selection of cafe standards. The kids menu includes eggs on toast or pancakes ($6.95) or chesseburger and chips or fish and chips (9.95). I tried the pulled pork burger with coleslaw and chips ($19) which tasted great but was very sloppy as it wasย overloaded with sauce. I think it would benefit from having much less barbecue sauce and mayonnaise and sandwiched in between much sturdier bread.

The cakes are where Alfa Bakehouse excel as the family-run business has a heritage in Greek baking. While drooling over the cake cabinet I chose the chocolate mousse cake. Light in texture yet rich in taste, troche this is a must-do if youโ€™re a chocolate fan.

The service was friendly and prompt and on observation the staff seemed to manage the abundance of little people well. Alfa Bakehouse Seddon is a great new addition to Seddonโ€™s increasingly popular child-friendly cafe scene and I recommend dropping in for a sweet treat.ย
