HOT: +39 Pizzeria, 362 Little Bourke St, Melbourne

+39 Pizzeria

Looking for a family-friendly eatery in the CBD? If your kid loves pizza (and letโ€™s face it, most kids do) then head to +39 Pizzeria on Little Bourke Street.

The pizzeria is stylish, buzzing and pretty small (rents are high in the CBD) youโ€™ll find itโ€™s a popular family haunt if you visit early in the evening. There are numerous high chairs, you can park your pram near the entrance and the food is fast and delicious.

If you want to ensure a table and if thereโ€™s a large group of you then make sure you book a table. We call in on a Sunday evening at 5:30pm and itโ€™s booked out unless we are able to leave by 6:30pm. A staff member tells me that itโ€™s that busy EVERY night. One benefit of the restaurant is that itโ€™s open daily from 12pm so if you want to eat lunch at 2pm or dinner at 4pm then thatโ€™s fine.

Baby 2.0 enjoys looking at the mural of Italy, spotting all the different landmarks, while he waits for his wood-fired margherita pizza to arrive ($18). Itโ€™s a large thin-based crust topped with simple and fresh ingredients. He almost finishes a whole pizza by himself!

I have the spanner crab pasta with lobster bisque ($28). Itโ€™s a steaming bowl heaving with fresh pasta and numerous crab-eating accoutrements. Baby 2.0 is fascinated by my process of eating crab.

For dessert we order the tiramisu ($12). The layers of mascarpone and sponge are verging on too alcoholic for Baby 2.0 so I devour most of it. ย

While the restaurant is very busy the staff are charming and friendly, asking whether everything is good, ruffling Baby 2.0โ€™s hair and even giving him two little chocolates when we pay the bill. And of course pizza and pasta never fail to please!
